Matching it up with other nearly-identical coupling constants elsewhere in the spectrum usually tells you which protons are near which others. What are the coupling constants ( J )? The coupling constant J is pretty much the peak-to-peak distance, usually reported in Hz. The coupling constant, J (usually in frequency units, Hz) is a measure of the interaction between a pair of protons. Example: t, J = 6 Hz (DRAW A SPLITTING TREE AND GRAPH THE MULTIPLET. With real data, it is best to take the average distance between lines (which is also the distance between the first and last line divided by three). The J value of a quartet can always be determined by measuring the distances between individual lines. Drag a box around each group of equivalent protons. To do this, go to Analysis ā Multiplet Analysis ā Manual (or just hit the āJā key). The easiest one is to use the Multiplet Analysis tool. To calculate coupling constants in MestreNova, there are several options. The J-coupling typically reduces in magnitude the more bonds exist between the coupled nuclei. J-coupling values range in 0.1 Hz in organic compounds to kHz in transition metal complexes. ![]()
